Tips for Improving Remote Work Visibility

As companies transition from remote work to in-office and hybrid arrangements, becoming “out of sight and out of mind” is a concern for employees. It is critical for female remote workers to elevate their efforts and deliberately demonstrate their value. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article by Sabina Nawaz, remote workers may “risk being seen as less productive, or worse, forgotten about or relegated to the sidelines”.

Here are some of our tips for improving remote work visibility from our executive C-Suite community:

  • Emphasize what value you add in staff meetings, not just your title or functional area. Per Shelly Archambeau, renowned C-Suite executive thought leader, and author of the incredible book Unapologetically Ambitious, it is critical in meetings to present the actual work that you do and while also doing weekly status reports/analyses for your manager and team.
  • Set aside a “Connection Power Hour” each week to reach out and network with at least one work colleague. Let them know what projects you are working on and ask them for advice and feedback. Also, listen to their work agenda and offer to help as needed. This strategy will allow you to be top of mind within your teams.
  • Find a sponsor: a sponsor is someone who is usually in another functional area but can help you get promoted. Meet with your sponsor monthly and keep them abreast of your successes. Often, they will showcase your accomplishments within the organization.
